Gophers and Cheese

All last week I was mentally preparing myself for the fact the weather forecast was cold and snowy and the likelihood of me being able to attend the 48th Annual Spring Flood Run was very small.  I was following the Flood Run's Facebook page where they stressed over and over that the run would NEVER be moved or cancelled and encouraged people to attend by car or party bus if they couldn't ride. Where I live, we got around 6 inches of fresh snow Thursday into Friday morning but Friday was warm(ish) and melted a lot of it.  Saturday morning (the day of the run) had a record low in the upper teens and a high was wasn't supposed to break 40.  Even that morning, I didn't expect I would attend but the sky was clear and the sun was warm.  Nervous about ice on the roads, I waited until closer to noon before bundling up and leaving.  It was my first ride of the year on the Road King (I had previously been out on the Sporty). This was my favorite bike at the 2013 Freedom First Riders Bike Show in Alexandria, MN. It's a 1946 Harley-Davidson WL.  Obviously, it's been modified... heavily.  It was in the Rat/Rad section with one other bike but it is definitely more rad than rat.  If you think your evo, shovel, pan, or knucklehead chop is cool, this flattie might have you beat. Overall, it was a small show but definitely worth checking out if you're in the area next year.  I wouldn't be surprised if the poor weather kept some people from showing their bikes that otherwise would have.

This is the other Indian motorcycle that I really liked at the 2013 Freedom First Riders motorcycle show. This one is a 1929 Indian Chief.  Gotta love the original patina.  Take a close look at that passenger seat setup too. My favorite bike from the show is up next.

This is the first of 3 bikes that I really liked at the 2013 FFR Bike Show . It's a 1927 Indian Scout with Goulding sidecar.  I like the old Indians so much better than the new ones. Another Indian is coming up next.

There were a lot of different types of bikes at the 2013 Freedom First Riders Bike Show in Alexandria and even a few cars.  I liked this truck. Here's a really nice 1945 Indian Chief: 1970 Harley-Davidson Electra-Glide with sidecar: Lethal Injection softtail bagger featuring an X-Wedge: Very fast looking drag bike from Lil Evil Inkorpor8ted : Santa enjoying the off-season: I found the sign on these bikes funny... "Proper Way to Trailer a Bike to Sturgis" There wasn't a single Sportster at the show but I did find three bikes that I liked a lot.  I show you them over the next few days.
