Gophers and Cheese

I continued south from Maiden Rock and went as far as Nelson, WI, which is across the river from Wabasha, MN. This liquor store sign might have been a bit premature. I saw this car at various spots along the run. This Sportster was really cool.  It had a very unusual method for hardtailing the frame while retaining the swingarm. I headed back north and spotted this sign while fueling up. The ride along the river is always nice. No Flood Run would be complete without stopping in Hager City at the Border Lounge.  No cover with wristband means no excuse for not stopping.  Even the SCVR party bus showed up.  I'll never quite understand why so many people hang out outside when the entertainment is inside.  Oh well. I continued north and stopped briefly again at the Nauti Hawg .  I saw this really cool old FLH. More photos from the 2011 Fall Flood Run ... Maiden Rock was like a needle-in-the-haystack bike show.  You had to look hard but there were cool bikes if you spent a little time searching.  One of the nicest examples was this panhead. Here is a pair of bikes that I would classify as "interesting".  The first is sport bike that was covered in paint - even the motor.  The second is a Road Glide with a giant front wheel.  It looks like something Battistinis would make.  I generally don't like the giant front wheel look but this one really wasn't bad. Here's a CB750 I have seen multiple times before including last weekend at the SCVR Chili Feed . OK, now for some Sportsters... (finally!) I have seen it before and there are things I definitely like about this Sporty (notably the paint) but it just doesn't flow for me.  I think the window handlebars are the thing I like least. More pics from the 2011 Spring Flood Run ... I only went as far south as Maiden Rock, WI.  After turning back north, I stopped and took some pics near the swollen Rush River. A stop in Hager City is a Flood Run tradition.  There were maybe a dozen bikes there - again, reflective of the small turnout as this place is normally packed during the Flood Run. There was a really cool shovelhead parked in front of the Border Lounge.   Heading north, I stopped at another favorite, the Nauti Hawg in Diamond Bluff, WI.  Like every other place I saw, the number of bikes out was so small compared to normal. After that stop, I went back to the No Name Saloon in Prescott, WI for one more cup of coffee and headed home.  I did about 200 frigid miles in total.  Let's all hope for much better weather for the Fall Flood Run. I'll share a few color versions of the pics I took in the next post...

After stopping in Wabasha, I headed north along US-61.  I stopped for a few pics by the river: I stopped in Red Wing at Staghead Restaurant for an early dinner consisting of a sandwich and some soup. Crossing back into Wisconsin meant a stop in Hager City: Continuing north, I stopped for a second time at the Nauti Hawg: I crossed back into Minnesota from Prescott and took this picture in Point Douglas Park: I stopped at Borderline Bar and Grill but unfortunately got there before the live music started. Not wanting to wait for the music, I decided to take off and stopped at the Joint before finally heading home.  Over the course of the day, I covered about 260 miles.  I'll be looking forward to the Fall Flood Run in September.
