Minneapolis Messaround 2013 - Part 1

The 2013 Minneapolis Messaround was held on September 1, 2013 in the parking lot of the Memory Lanes bowling alley in Minneapolis.  Yes, it's taken me a while to post these pics.  No, I still haven't posted Bearded Lady pics (those are the only ones I have left to post from 2013).

The show is hosted by the Lucky Bastards car club and is strictly dedicated to period-correct 1960s and earlier hot rods, customs, and motorcycles.  If you drive or ride anything else in, you can't park in the main lot, but you're welcome to park nearby and enjoy the show.

Live music was outside and inside and if you haven't seen Crankshaft perform his one-man-band set, you're missing out.  It's amazing.

Check out this Bonneville belly tank racer from 313 Garage in St. Paul.

There was an interesting assortment of dragsters too.  This guy drew a big crowd when he fired his up.

This one featured re-purposed beer cans to keep rain out of the exhaust as well as a completely insane cockpit.

If you're going to drive one of these things, you have to dress properly.

The next post is cars and the following three posts will be bikes.

T-Shirts Now Available!!!

I have my very first run of screenprinted t-shirts featuring Shawn Dickinson's "Gophers and Cheese" artwork available in the store.  I had them printed locally in St. Paul and I am very happy with the way they turned out.

This is an Extra Large:

I was a little nervous that some of the fine detail in Shawn's drawing might be lost during the printing process but the image turned out nice and crisp.  The blur in the really close-up shots are from my camera's fancy lens, not the shirt.

What are you waiting for? Go buy one HERE!

2014 Donnie Smith Show: March 29-30

The 27th Annual Donnie Smith Bike & Car Show is only about a month away.  It is March 29-30 at the St. Paul RiverCentre.  This will be my 7th consecutive year attending.  You can check out blog posts and pics from the last few years on my Guide To Local Events page.

This year will be quite a bit different as it is the first year where cars will be on display along with the usual custom bikes and massive swap meet.  It should be interesting.

2014 Rochester Bike Show - Part 11

The 2014 Rochester Bike Show and Swap Meet was fun and I highly recommend attending.  I'll leave you with three more Sportsters.

This 2002 hardtailed 883 with springer front-end from Zack's Custom Paint was called Nomad.

Here's another hardtailed springer from Zack's Custom Paint featuring a 1992 Sportster motor.

Finally, this is yet another bike from S&J Kustomz.  This one is a 2007 XL1200.

Don't miss the show next year!

2014 Rochester Bike Show - Part 10

If you've been following my blog for even a little while you know I love Sportsters and the 9th Annual Rochester Bike Show & Swap Meet had plenty of them.

Here's a 2010 Iron 883 with paint by Relic Kustoms.  I thought the pinstriping on the oil cover was a nice touch.

Here's another Iron, this time a 2009:

This is a 2013 Sportster 72...

...and here's a 2013 Sportster 48.

Three more Sportsters remain in my last post from the show up next...

2014 Rochester Bike Show - Part 9

There were a lot of Sportsters at the 2014 Rochester Bike Show.  Let's start with the ironheads.

This 1974 ironhead from S&J Kustomz featured a raw-metal look and a girder front-end.

This ironhead was for sale at the show but I didn't inquire about the price.

Here is another raw-metal style ironhead from S&J Kustomz.  This one is a 1985 XLH 1000.

Finally, here's a hardtailed 1981 ironhead:

Evo Sporties are up next.
