Chariots of the Gods 2013 - Part 3

There were a lot of very cool vans at Chariots of the Gods Custom Van and Camper Show.  Peering inside these vans was like looking into someone's home, often bedroom, from the 1970s.  It was kinda cool and kinda weird all at the same time.  It was a strange voyeuristic timewarp.  Fords and Chevys are up first.

I liked the wood paneling and alien-themed carvings in this Chevy van called Dazed and Confused.  This van is basically a rolling bedroom.

Yes, this Chevy van is a mobile strip club.  No, there were no strippers at the show... dammit.

Ford.

You have to love the hand-painted desert scene on this Chevy.  The leather seats and leather padded wall were really cool too.  Yes, that's a sink.

Dodge vans are up next.

Chariots of the Gods 2013 - Part 2

Besides vans, there were quite a few custom cars at the Chariots of the Gods Custom Van and Camper Show.

I loved the panels and intricate designs on this Chevy.  I think a few rolls of masking tape and a bucket of flake went into this paint job.

Slammed.  Check out those horns.

Galaxie:

This shot was staged.  That car didn't actually pull that trailer but it made for good pics.

This Pontiac has a demolition derby vibe about it.

Don't tread on me.

Where are all the vans?  They're up next.

Chariots of the Gods 2013 - Part 1

Back in July at the Bearded Lady (I know, I know... I still need to post my pics from that show), I saw a flyer for the Vinyl-Lux Chariots of the Gods Custom Van and Camper Show.  I wanted to take a short ride on my Sportster anyway that day so I decided to check it out since I had never been to a custom van show before.

It was a little tricky to find the place but it was a nice little spot, well shaded by some big trees.

While the show was focused on vans and some custom cars, a few motorcycles came and went.  Here you can see my Sportster next to an old BSA and a highly customized Kawasaki.  I've seen the Kawasaki at various shows before.

Custom cars are up next and the vans will be up after that.

First Thursday - August 2013 - Part 6

I first saw the tank for Dave Polgreen's Black Orpheus at the Chopper Art Show 2.  It was painted by Tom Fugle and I had never seen anything like it.  The hand-painted image against the wild iridescent background was amazing and I have no idea what technique was used to achieve it.  Then I got to see the whole bike at First Thursday at Dulono's Pizza.  It was simply incredible.  To me, the sissy bar and tail light look vaguely like the sword from Soul Caliber (not a bad thing), but perhaps that's just me.  I believe Dave is showing this bike at the 2013 Brooklyn Invitational Custom Motorcycle Show in September, a well-deserved honor.

Well, if you couldn't tell by all the pictures I took, August was a very good month for First Thursday.  There was a big crowd...

...the occasional "look at me!" burnout...

...and I stayed until the parking lot started to clear out.

The reason I keep coming back to First Thursday over and over is the wide variety of bikes and constant newness.  You never know what people will ride in on.
