More Hollow Strut Progress

I made a paper template to figure out where to drill the hole for the shock bolt.

I then marked where the outer sides needed to be cut.

It fits beautifully.

Here's the inside piece.  The cut is slightly different than the outer piece.

Here you can see just the side plates.

Here's a rough mock-up of how it will look:

I drilled a 3/8" hole in the bottom of each strut so I will be able to access the bolts for the taillights with an allen wrench after the side plates are welded on

Here are the six pieces ready to go.  Each one is marked as they are all subtlety different.  Now, I just need to get up the nerve to weld them.  They may look simple but I have a lot of time into them and really don't want to mess them up.

This is roughly what I am planning to do with what I'm calling the mini-fender.  I thought about welding both struts to mini-fender but I think I'm just going to try this route.  When everything is painted black, I think it will all blend in fine and this way is a lot easier.
