The "New" Seventy-Two

Harley-Davidson just announced their "new" Sportster... the Seventy-Two (XL1200V).

I say "new" because what is really new on it?  It's just another re-configuration of existing options.

The Seventy-Two reminds me of my 2004 XL1200C with the chromed out engine, narrow front-end, and 21" tire up front.  I think the Seventy-Two is decent-looking... for a stock bike.  I'm not a fan of the 2.1 gallon tank though.  It's not practical and, visually, it just looks too small against the frame.  I think a 3.3 would have been a better choice.

Looking at other options in the Sportster family, I really don't like the wide front tire and front-end found on the Forty-Eight or the new Custom.  I don't like the dark gray engine on the Nightster.  I find the XR1200X really interesting but I can't imagine buying one.  Out of the current lineup, the Iron is my favorite, but I'd have to do a 1250cc kit immediately.  While the Iron is my favorite, I would say the Seventy-Two is now my second-favorite Sportster in the current lineup.

With any luck, the "new" Seventy-Two will be at the Progressive International Motorcycle Show this weekend so I can see it in person.  If it is, you can be sure I'll post pics.

Until then, here are a few more from Harley's website:
