As soon as it stopped raining (around 1:30pm), I took the Road King east and chased the storm to check out the two bike shows scheduled today. First stop was the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Show at Kline Motorsports in Maplewood, MN. I was glad to see a very good turnout in spite of the rain.
First, I just want to call out that "vintage" meant 1990 or earlier. At first I thought this was ridiculous but then I realized 1990 was 20 years ago. Damn.
My favorite bike was this rat bike that gave new meaning to "spring seat". I'd bet it's actually kinda comfy.
The rat bike I liked so much was parked next to a beautiful "naked" Goldwing.
Here's my second-favorite. I really dig the headlight and the patina on the gas tank.
Check out the gigantic gas tanks instead of saddlebags as well as the tractor seats on this one. Nothing says, "I hate my wife/girlfriend" as much as a bare metal tractor seat to sit on, no luggage rack to carry her stuff, and a bike that only needs to stop for gas every 1,000 miles or so.
Here's a sampling of some other bikes on display:
This bike was in the parking lot (not on display). I think I packed less stuff for a week in Sturgis.
